5 things you didn't know about me

My friend Brian just tagged me and it's my turn to blog 5 things that people don't know about me. I rant a lot about my opinions on how to save the world all the time to my friends but very few know what I REALLY think. On the surface I appear like a very sociable and people loving type of gal but when those who know me read the following they might be a little shocked. I decided my 5 things would be about some of my core beleifs and personal battles that I struggle with on a daily basis but so rarely talk about.

1) In general I hate the human race. If i could annihilate all humans including myself together will all the evidence of our existence and without harming any other species - in a painless instant - I probably would. I don't believe that evolution would create another species as destructive as ours anytime soon so the chances are that life on earth will thrive for a lot longer than if we stick around and you never know maybe we'll all come back as dolphins and eagles etc. That would be totally cool!

2) Because the above isn't possible I believe that anything and everything we do to benefit the array of life on earth is worthwhile no matter how futile our long term goals may seem because for some form of life, somewhere, for some time - it matters. That includes humans. If we're gonna stick around we might aswell be happy and not have one child die every 3 seconds from preventable disease and malnutrition! I don't really hate us THAT much!

3) I used to lock public bathroom doors when I was small - and then climb under the door and leave them locked. My anti-social behaviour started at an early age!

4) When I was at Uni my friend and I used to keep mental list of who we would leave on Earth if we could follow through with number 1 but wanted keep a few of us on board. I still keep a list! Luckily for my friend Brian - he's been on it for a while. It's pretty limited though and some people fall on and off all the time. Brian - you've been warned!

5) My mother's mother had bowel cancer, my mother had breast cancer and my mother's sister has ovarian cancer. It's highly likely that I have a gene that links all these cancers and if i do that means I have an 85% of getting breast cancer and a high chance of getting the other two also. The genetic test costs thousands of dollars and I don't really know how I would deal with the results anyway so for now - I'm just ignoring this. The chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer also increases if you don't have a baby and this sucks because I believe that resisting the urge to reproduce is probably one of the most environmentally friendly things anyone can do. I also love kids. Again - this SUCKS!

Ok - next I'm tagging Adele and Shane.

Defending Our Oceans - #1 website

GetActive, NetSquared and Squidoo have created a list of the 59 smartest nonprofit organizations online today - and Greenpeace made it to #1 with the Defending Our Oceans website!

We know it's good, hell we know it's probably the best website that any NGO has right now but it's always very encouraging to see that others like it this much and in light of this achievement I want to give a big thanks to Adele ( a very good friend of mine :-) for all her hard work creating this site and managing it for more than year now.

"These charities were chosen for their excellence in online storytelling and collaboration with their donors. We didn't play favorites to one cause over another, nor did we look at their fundraising goals or number of members. Instead, these organizations are winners because of their web 2.0 smarts and a willingness to engage their constituents far beyond asking them to dig into their pockets.

These are organizations that give their volunteers and members a voice and get out of the way. They're pros at mobilizing awareness online. They're experimentors. Innovators. On a mission. They're fearless."
